Chellie Butel, RN, BSN, JD – Director
The Patient Safety program is an initiative designed to raise awareness and build on the existing FPP efforts to enhance the culture and practice of patient safety at Washington University School of Medicine (WUSM). The department works collaboratively with our medical center partners and with WUSM clinical departments to proactively identify and address patient safety concerns and opportunities for system improvements and represents the FPP on hospital committees concerned with safety.
Patient Safety also participates in root cause analyses and the development of action plans intended to improve our delivery of care to patients, both in-patient and in the ambulatory care settings, acting as liaison to the hospital partners’ safety programs. The department acts as a resource to clinical departments and the ambulatory care clinics in the area of prevention and responds to referrals from these areas to help facilitate evaluation and implementation of systems changes across departmental lines, identifying resources for best practices when appropriate.
You may access additional information, including the Patient Safety Library, via the WUSM Patient Safety web site, or by entering this address in your browser: https://PatientSafety.wusm.wustl.edu. The Patient Safety Library is searchable and available to all BJC and WUSM employees.
